  Where do we go when we die?

  where do we go when we die?.

  there are many very confusing concepts about this subject.

  about where we go when we die, and no one i've found to date has really set forth a satisying answer to this question; so i thought i might just employ some of the knowledge i've gained from my own thirty year study of the bible.. where actually would be the most sensible place to begin when dealing with this subject?

  We don't go anywhere. The word 'go' is being completely misapplied here. Asking "where do we 'go' when we die?" is like asking "what is further north of north?"

  We didn't come from anywhere when we were born, & we don't go anywhere when we die. If people can accept that we didn't exist before birth, & that our personality is an emergent property of our brain (which most people do), then why do so many find it difficult to accept that when the brain dies, our personality dies with it? I think the rational part of their brain does accept it to be honest, it's just the irrational survival driven part of the brain that can't handle it.

  Getting into Arguments with JW's...

  i'm trying to fade away, but i sometimes find myself in discussions or arguments with jw family/friends/white haired virgin elders.

  now, i usually have them beat on things but i'm not very experienced, so i was thinking if you guys could help me put together a list of completely unanswerable questions to pose to my jw friends/family/elders so they can stop bugging me.

  if i keep asking them questions they simply cannot answer, then they might leave them alone.

  I think that for the vast majority of "converts" from atheism, this has been the case, they have found God and they did it by meeting God.

  Of course unlike most, if not all such people, i would go & get my head examined after, just to be on the safe side.

  on another thread that i started (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/191731/1/a-book-on-how-the-bible-canon-was-decided-upon#3575623), palmtree asked the question of why she, while a witness, was never taught about how the canon of the bible was decided.

  i commented that we catholics aren't taught that, either.

  but this time i would like you people to give your opinions on a different matter.. if i were interested in converting someone to my faith, and wanted this person to be a true believer, why would it need to be wrong to let the person check on books that criticize the beliefs i'm trying to convince the person to follow?

  The Great Apostasy

  hello - my bro [and many others] often speak of how the true teachings of jesus and the apostles were corrupted and as one poster recently wrote 'since then, the catholic church has been forcing the trinity down our throat'.

  is there any evidence to support the great apostasy?

  Just so you know, the response above was oversimplified & not particularly accurate. There was no great apostacy, but rather, the beliefs of christianity evolved, developed & changed over time, like all long-lasting religions. There was never a single set of 'gospel' teachings that christians followed, which would later become corrupted. Indeed, christianty existed in it's earliest form before the gospels were even written. Back then, there were multiple 'christian' cults who believed lots of different things, & if anything, the institution of the Roman Catholic Church was the first sincere attempt at unity within christianity. But, since there were so many opposing ideas floating around, they couldn't all be selected for inclusion in the biblical cannon, & in the end the majority of books that were considered were not included. Since then, the beliefs have continued to change, schisms have occured (the watchtower being one of the more recent ones) & christianity has reverted to the mess it began as. But all christian sects which have ever existed would argue that all of their beliefs are based on inspired writings from the horse's mouth up in the sky.

  The 'cure' for the sexually transmitted gay disease that i suffer from known as 'aidstheism' cannot be cured by miracles, because even the best miracles can still be hoaxes. Ultimately the only way i'd ever believe in God would be if i were to meet Him. Until then, i don't see any reason to assume He exists.

  most christians alive today have rejected the notion of eternal, physically painful punishment for non-believers after death.

  (annihilationism, universalism and defining hell as an 'absence of/separation from god' are the most common beliefs, today.).

  so, if you're a christian who doesn't view christianity as the only road to salvation, do you think evangelism is required or necessary?.

  Yes, it was sarcasm, but i'm sure you understand what my point was. Christians may read other books, but they'll always take the bible's word over that of other books, regardless of what the other books are or what they say, which isn't a very objective way to operate.

  And a christian calling someone ignorant is hilarious.
